February 2018 Reading Wrap-Up

A new bookish video just went up on my YouTube channel!

I got through quite a few books in February: some hits and some misses. I read Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple which was different from my typical Brit Lit, but I really loved the writing...

"If we could be seen thinking, we would be shown blown bright one moment dark the next, like embers; subject to every passing word and thought of our own or other people's, mostly other people's."

Another quote I loved from that book was referring to one of the characters reading classics and challenging books: "She deliberately put herself in touch with greatness."

Of course there was also plenty of Tolkien this month! I finished up The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, and I'm starting a re-read of The Hobbit next. I had so many favorite scenes and lines, but here's just one about the mysterious forest of the elves, Lothlorien...

"It strikes me that folk takes their peril with them into Lorien, and finds it there because they're brought it. But perhaps you could call her perilous, because she's so strong in herself."

What books did you enjoy this month? 📚
