We have a breakfast date at Chef Mickey's, my friends...
YES. There will be Mickey waffles.
Get your napkins ready, 'cause we are going to PARTY (you say it: paaaaarty!).
Did I mention the Mickey waffles?? :)
Chef Mickey's is located on the Grand Canyon Concourse at the Contemporary Resort with monorails whizzing by just above you. I tend to think of this as the quintessential Walt Disney World restaurant, partly because it was the first restaurant my family tried on our very first Disney trip and partly because there are Hidden Mickeys everywhere...
He's in the decor - he's next to the giant plate you take your picture with just after you check in.
He's on the chairs and he's on the tables!
There are several different seating areas at Chef Mickey's; the room at the back with the waves across the ceiling is my favorite, although it's fun to sit out in the open closer to the monorails too.
Chef Mickey's is an all-you-can-eat buffet that's open for breakfast, brunch (a recent addition!), and dinner. Breakfast costs $30-$40 (depending on the time of year) per adult and about $20 per child.
Dinner used to be my family's favorite here (they had these lovely parmesan mashed potatoes...), but in recent years it's gotten so expensive, and the quality of the food didn't seem as high. When we tried breakfast, however, we had a delicious time!
The buffet begins with an array of tempting fresh fruit.
There are multigrain croissants if you're feeling healthy. There are also buttery, delicious croissants if you're feeling like you're on vacation. :)
The kids have a corner with hash browns and breakfast pizza. The rest of the buffet is packed with tasty morning dishes - sausages, eggs, frittata, quiche, cheesy potatoes, breakfast meats and vegetables...
I see more Mickey ears on all the food signs!
My favorite part of the buffet is the center, where they're whipping up Mickey waffles, pancakes, and French toast right before your eyes!
Mickey waffles are my favorite, but they are so much better when they're fresh and hot and crispy. On some Disney buffets, where they cook up the Mickey waffles in the back then leave them in a tightly-packed dish waiting to be put out, the waffles can get mushy. Because they were straight off the iron, the waffles at Chef Mickey's were some of the best I've ever had!
Getting everything fresh off the griddle was definitely a treat!
This is Disney food, so why not make your breakfast into dessert? I like to top my waffles with chocolate and caramel sauce...yum...
You'll also find cheese blintzes with topping...
...and a nice selection of pastries...
...muffins, rice crispy treats, chocolate croissants, donuts, brownies. I think all breakfast buffets should have brownies, don't you?
But Chef Mickey's wouldn't be complete if you didn't get to meet the mice! Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto come around to your table in rotations. They also lead a napkin-swinging party every hour or so with the best-ever "Celebrate" song - "Here at Chef Mickey's...we know what to do!" If you've ever spent any time on the Grand Canyon Concourse, you know the one I'm talking about. :)
