DVC at the Polynesian: First Impressions

Close your eyes and picture palm trees...

...we're taking a stroll around the Polynesian Village Resort today!

I was excited to check out the new Disney Vacation Club areas at the Poly on our trip.  The Tahiti and Rapa Nui longhouses have been renamed Moorea and Pago Pago and spruced up with new designs for the new DVC villas inside.  There are room tours out there of the inside of the villas; today we're focusing on the public DVC areas.

A new map of the Polynesian - the buildings are all in the same places, but those Bora Bora Bungalows stretching out into the Seven Seas Lagoon are all new!

Captain Cook's Decor | Disney's Polynesian Village

Tropical pixie dust is coming your way, my friends!

The Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World is an old favorite of mine, and the hotel has been seeing a lot of design changes recently which I was excited to see on our recent trip.  This week we're going to be taking a look at some of the new stuff, and we're starting at Captain Cook's!

Disney World Style: Vacation Look Book

It's no secret that I love dressing up for Disney World.  Planning a stylish wardrobe for the parks and resorts is half the fun of anticipating the next trip!

The new Disney Look Book video on my YouTube channel is full of fashion scenes from our latest Disney vacation, and I've got more details on the outfits in today's blog post. :)

YES.  There will be Mickey waffles.

Get your napkins ready, 'cause we are going to PARTY (you say it: paaaaarty!).

Did I mention the Mickey waffles?? :)

Disney's Boardwalk Inn | Water View Room Tour

WELCOME to the BOARDWALK, everybody!

We're checking into a deluxe Disney World resort for a virtual stay!  Last time it was the Yacht Club Resort; today we're crossing Crescent Lake to look at a room at the Boardwalk Inn.

So put on your best hat - you'll want to match Minnie!

Another reason to get excited: the curtains are new and totally Boardwalk-ed out.  The rooms at the Inn were spiffied up for 2015 with some new furniture and fixtures.  For comparison, you can see photos of the old room here.

We stayed in a standard water view room in the Boardwalk Inn - room 3241.  The room was very long - sometimes there are rooms in funny corners of the resort that have slightly different dimensions than the rest (like this corner room at the Beach Club), and I think this was one of them.

Just a quick note about the Boardwalk Resort - it has two separate wings, the Boardwalk Inn and the Boardwalk Villas.  They share the same check-in/concierge desks, pools, and public areas; the rooms in the Villas are, as you may have guessed, Disney Vacation Club villas.  This room is on the Boardwalk Inn side.

So are you ready to step inside?

Pret A Manger Breakfast | NYC Trip Report

One of the fun things about staying in New York is that when you get into the elevator at your hotel, this is what you see:

SO many buttons!!  When my cousin and I descended from our floor down to the street on the second day of NYC trip, it was fairly early on a Saturday morning, and we had an exciting destination...

...the Empire State Building!  We had read beforehand that the lines at the Empire Statue Building are just insane, and it's best to get there early.  There's a post about our visit there coming up, but first, it was time for breakfast...

Where in WDW: Cinderella Scene

I haven't done a "Where in Walt Disney World" trivia photo challenge in a little while, but you'd better put on your Disney thinking caps - I've got a new one today!

You'll find some charming paintings of scenes from Cinderella somewhere in the this one the mice and birds are unveiling the dress they made for Cinderelly. :)  Have you ever noticed these?  Post your answer in the comments!

Details at the New Harambe Market | Disney's Animal Kingdom

When disembarking in Harambe village after a journey on Kilimanjaro Safari on our recent trip, I was surprised to discover a path where there had previously only been bushes and brush - there's an entire new corner of the Animal Kingdom back here...

This is a brand new counter service restaurant area - HARAMBE MARKET!

The Animal Kingdom had no shortage of funky signs and interesting, atmospheric details before, and now they've lots more in Harambe Market...

You might even find Mickey in some secret identities you never knew he had - like the coffee-drinking "Mister Mouse" or the Fichwa! Fellow. :)

Magic Kingdom Style | Disney World OOTD

Get ready for some Walt Disney World wardrobe pixie dust, my friends!

Close your eyes and picture Cinderella Castle; this Disney Outfit of the Day is a dapper dress for the Magic Kingdom.

I love that moment when you've just arrived at the park and come through the turnstiles - you pause to put your ticket away/collect your party/collect your thoughts - you look up, and there's the Mickey parterre and the train clanging cheerfully as it pulls into the station - and you just say...

Mango Vanilla Panna Cotta | Boardwalk Bakery

The best way to enjoy the bright colors of the Boardwalk area at Walt Disney World is with something sweet in your hand...

...luckily there's a Boardwalk Bakery to supply the dessert, including today's Disney treat: a Mango Vanilla Panna Cotta!

There are sooo many beautiful things behind the counter at the Boardwalk Bakery.  It's always such a dilemma to choose just one!

Quote Collection: July

Last month, I did a quotation collection/round-up from some books I'd been reading in June (find it here!), and tonight I've got a short literary list I thought I'd share from July.  Don't forget to share your favorite books/quotes from the month in the comments!

"The course of English Literature would have been decidedly different had Mr. Wordsworth owned a power mower, she thought."

"Well, as a general rule, most women, before they've got 'em, present to their men smiling, agreeing faces.  They hide their thoughts.  You now, when you're feeling hateful, honey, you are hateful."

Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee

(I was excited about this big new release last month but also uncertain about reading it after all the news coverage - I did really enjoy it though!)

"They're real strong magic, they make you have good luck.  Not like fried chicken when you're not lookin' for it, but things like long life 'n' good health 'n' passin' six-weeks tests."

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

(After Go Set A Watchman, you of course have to go back and marvel again how amazing To Kill A Mockingbird is :) )

"Nearly a month then to this visit about which my feelings were so uncertain.  All of a sudden, not only not nearly a month but now, today, now this minute, and I found myself being whirled through the suburbs of Oxford in a large black Daimler."

Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford

(Love this description - this is exactly how time seems to move sometimes, with leap)
