Zara Scarves | NYC Trip Report

This latest New York City trip report installment involves a scarf shopping spree... our last update we had just finished an afternoon of sightseeing at the Met.  It was dark by the time we got out, and we walked the long walk down 5th Avenue alongside Central Park towards Time Square and our hotel.

The night was hopping - the Fifth Avenue stores were open and pulsing with glittering lights and windows.  I think the neon pink entrance in the above photo belongs to a hotel!

I loved window shopping - some stores we passed even had live models!  But there was one store I couldn't walk right by...

Disney's Yacht Club Resort | Room Tour

I feel like Disney's Yacht Club Resort Hotel often gets overlooked.  There's so much going on on Crescent Lake with the Boardwalk across the way and the more colorful Beach Club Resort just next door...

...but today we're going to take a look behind that serene grey exterior with the bright red and white awnings.  It's time for a Disney resort room tour and review!

You often see photos of the Yacht Club entrance from the Crescent Lake side, but the parking lot approach is very grand too!

I just love how peaceful and sophisticated this lobby is.  There's the giant globe and the French doors and the potted palms and the corner staircase...

...but before I get too distracted, let's get checked in and head away from the lobby, down the hallways to check out the room!

Rustle yourselves up some big appetites, cowboys and girls, because I've got a big helping of Disney World deliciousness to share...

We're off to the far reaches of Frontierland; just behind Pecos Bill's you'll find the Golden Oak Outpost window which is serving some pretty amazing Western snacks.

These are the waffle fries to end all waffle fries.

Ready to try them??

Visiting Walt's Hometown: Marceline, Missouri

If you're a Disney fan, the name "Marceline" will sound familiar to you.  Marceline, Missouri is the boyhood home of Walt Disney - he and his family lived on a farm just outside of town for four years when Walt was growing up, from 1906 to 1909.

Walt would always remember Marceline fondly, and he later wrote that "to tell the truth more things of importance happened to me in Marceline than have happened since - or are likely to in the future.  Things I mean, like seeing my first circus parade, attending my first school, seeing my first motion picture.  I know you'll agree with me that such childhood 'firsts' as those are of utmost importance in any human being's life."

If you're a Disney fan, and you're driving through Missouri, you won't be able to pass the Marceline exit by!  My family was able to stop by Walt's hometown during a road trip this summer, and I was so excited to see the place for myself.

Walking right down the middle of Main Street USA...but not the one at the Magic Kingdom!

Metropolitan Museum of Art | NYC Trip Report

The Metropolitan Museum of Art stands on the upper east side of Central Park in New York City.  It's one of the world's largest and most visited art galleries.

When my cousin and I spent a weekend in Manhattan last fall, the Met was definitely one of the New York City must-do's on our list!

We had blocked out our Friday afternoon for some Met culture and spent about four hours blissfully exploring the galleries and exhibits.  Read on for some of our highlights!

Hub Grass at the Magic Kingdom

As you reach the end of Main Street USA on your way to Cinderella Castle, you'll notice something new at the Magic Kingdom..., that beautiful castle looks the same as ever (although those new turrets are under construction at the moment)...I'm talking about the new HUB GRASS area!

After seeing the waterway filled in and the construction walls up here last year, I was excited to check out the finished result.  It was pretty weird to see such a familar area looking totally different...

What is going on here??

Currently Links 07.11.2015

Happy Weekend, everybody!  Some assorted updates & pixie dust linkage for you...

currently road a family reunion out west - got to hang out with my lovely cousin Becky and visit some bookstores!  I've been sharing our adventures on my instagram. :)

currently listening to...Geronimo by Sheppard.  My brother thinks it's a little frantic, but I think it's catchy.

currently reading...Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford.  I've been meaning to try a Nancy Mitford novel as she was a contemporary of one of my favorite writers, P.G. Wodehouse, and I've read about her and her sisters.  I enjoyed some of the Britishness and the Hons cupboard, but there's a coldness to it too - not quite my style.

currently royal baby watching...Princess Charlotte's christening was last week - love the photos and Kate's coat and hat.

currently youtube watching...I'll click over to Jaime Greenberg's makeup channel when I need something light to watch for a five-minute break.  Enjoyed her latest Top 5 video!

also...apparently the casts of two Disney Broadway shows The Lion King and Aladdin got stuck in the airport and had an epic sing-off to pass the time.  So cool!

currently excited by the BBC because...(1) they released a first look of the Sherlock Special that's coming (I think??) at Christmas and (2) there's a new Agatha Christie adaptation with the girl from Call the Midwife that also looks pretty fabulously retro and exciting.  I CAN'T WAIT.

24 Things We Did at Disney 24 Hr Event | Magic Kingdom with the Trolley People

On May 22, 2015, Walt Disney World celebrated the kick-off of its "Coolest Summer Ever" with a 24-Hour Event at the Magic Kingdom...

The park was open from 6 AM to 6 AM, and guests were allowed to show their "Disney Side" and dress up in costume.  My brothers and I came as the Trolley Show people from Main Street USA!

Disney has been throwing these 24-hr parties for the past three years.  The first one in 2012 was "One More Disney Day" to celebrate leap day.  The park opened at 6 AM, and that day the castle was completely shrouded in mist.  In 2015, luckily the skies were clearer first thing in the morning...

I loved wearing my Trolley Girl outfit at the Halloween Party, and I was so excited to break it out again!

There's a new video for 24 Hour Day up on my YouTube Channel as well!

So have you got your spats on?  Are you ready to experience 24 hour day with the trolley people?  Here are 24 things we did at the Magic Kingdom:
