Central Park & Bethesda Terrace | NYC Trip Report

We're travelling to New York City on A Pinch of Pixie Dust today!

When I last left off in my NYC trip report, my cousin Becky and I had just arrived in the city, strolled through Bryant Park, had a lovely pastry lunch, and explored the New York Public Library (read that post here!).  We headed North on Fifth Avenue to get to our next stop...

We may or may not have made a detour for American Girl Place. ;)

It was so much fun to admire the stunning fashions in the fifth avenue windows...

...passing by Tiffany's!

That juxtaposition of leafy green trees packed in between buildings, the street below busy with cars - it's such a New York sight!

Central Park has the same striking contrast - soaring branches and soaring skyscrapers!

Our destination was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but we decided to take a detour to explore Central Park first...

...where there are benches for days. :)

Climbing to look out over the "Dene" (I believe that's what this part of the park is called!).

There are several woodland gazebos perched on various rock outcroppings in the park.  The biggest one is called the "Cop Cot" and has Scottish origins.  Apparently they do wedding ceremonies in it!

Becky is an Avengers fan, so we had to stop by Bethesda Terrace to try to find the spot where Thor blasted off to Asgard.

The arcade beneath the street was beautiful - this is the Minton Tile ceiling.  It was originally created in the 1860s and restored in 2000.  How amazing it would be for the designers from the 1860s to look forward and know that it was still being enjoyed by Central Park goers over a hundred and fifty years later.

We crossed under to have a look down the Mall...

It was hard to put my camera away, because every vista seemed prettier than the last - those American elms seem to be glowing in yellow and green!

These feet would be walking all over NYC that weekend!  Becky claimed that we had walked 50 miles by the end of the first day, and the number only went up as time went on.  You see so much more when you walk a city though - it was definitely worth it.

Another look at the fountain and lake beyond.

The statue represents the Angel of the Waters from the Gospel of John...

...but I think it's an Angel of the Pigeons too!

Soon we continued on towards the Met.  We passed bikers...

...and boaters!

Central Park is featured in so many movies and tv shows; you constantly seem to be passing something you've seen on the screen.  We were reminded of Enchanted a time or two, and I'm not sure I've seen a scene filmed exactly here, but it looks dramatic and cinematic enough with all that ivy hanging from the bridge!

Coming up next: the Metropolitan Museum of Art!

Scenic Line of the West with Mickey & Friends

It's Wednesday, and that means we're turning our attention yet again to the details at Disney World to test your expertise...

...for instance, have you ever noticed the map of the "Scenic Line of the West?"

There are all sorts of scenes featuring Mickey and his friends adventuring across the country...

Liberty Tree Tavern & the Amazing Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake

One of my family's favorite meals at Walt Disney World is lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern, for one simple reason:

OOEY GOOEY TOFFEE CAKE.  It's one of the best desserts at Disney.

But the Ooey Gooey isn't the only thing to love here.

There are some tasty savory-rather-than-sweet options on the menu too (you know, if you don't just want to have dessert for lunch...).  I've got a new Disney restaurant review for y'all today, so get ready to eat!

Magic Kingdom Details | Castle Couture

Window shopping at Walt Disney World is always a fun pastime because so often the displays aren't just merchandise - they're works of art!

Today we're pausing outside of Castle Couture, the Royal Dressmaker just behind Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland.  There are lots of beautiful details inside the shop, including a color-changing dress for Princess Aurora; but if you look outside you'll find Aurora's dress still under construction...

The scene in Sleeping Beauty (this one!) where the three fairies are using their magic to prepare for Aurora's birthday is just charming, and this window brings it to life!

There's the elegant dress swirling around and all sorts of sewing supplies set out...

...the fashion book is open to the right page!  Pink or blue?

I love the needles and spools of thread hovering in the air, finishing the stitches, and there's magic pixie dust everywhere! :)

Trolley Girl #DisneySide Costume

I have many different Disney Sides...I think we all do...but one of my favorite Disney Sides has to be my Trolley Girl side...

I have always loved the Magic Kingdom Welcome Show and the Trolley Show and the Main Street character style - the parasol!  the petticoat!  the spats!!

My brother and I were trolley people at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this past fall (here we are with Casey Jr...coming down the track...), and I can't wait to wear it again tomorrow for the Disney 24 Hour day at the Magic Kingdom.  Guests are allowed to dress up in costume, and the trolley people are coming back!

A few readers have asked about how the costume came together, so in today's post I'm breaking it down piece by piece!

Shake Shack New York | NYC Trip Report

Happy Monday everybody!  It's time for some new blog deliciousness... we're headed to an amazing fast food restaurant called Shake Shack.  They began as a food stand in Madison Square Park, and now they've got multiple locations around the country.  My cousin Becky and I passed the Theater Square location on our trip to NYC and decided we had to stop and give it a try... turned out to be a very good decision!  The burgers and fries were AMAZING.

Where in WDW: Mickey & Humphrey

This week's Wednesday Disney World trivia features a mouse and a bear...

You might know them - it's Mickey Mouse and Humphrey Bear (from the Donald Duck cartoons!).  Humphrey is riding an old-fashioned bicycle.  That takes skill.  Also, did you know that kind of bike is called a penny-farthing?

ANYway, have you ever seen this sign?  Post your guess in the comments and tune in next week for the answer.

The "Code of the West" can be found posted in Pecos Bill's Restaurant in Frontierland.

Welcome to New's been waiting for you...

I'm starting a brand new trip report today!  My cousin Becky and I had some fabulous adventures on a trip to New York City this past fall, and I can't wait to share...

The new Taylor Swift song "Welcome to New York" had literally just come out, and I definitely had it on repeat that weekend.  The timing was perfect, and listening to it now takes me straight back to all the excitement of setting off for the city...

Pretty Notecards & Stationery Stash!

Confession: I. am addicted. to pretty stationery.

As much as I enjoy all the more modern means of communication on the Internet, there will always be a special place in my heart for a good-old-fashioned written letter, and lukcily there are plenty of gorgeous cards and notebooks out there!

I posted a new haul video on my YouTube channel last week full of finds from Barnes & Noble, Target, Rifle Paper Co, and Vera Bradley...and I wanted to share my stationery stash on here as well!

Lilly Pulitzer at the Grand Floridian | WDW OOTD

I think that a Disney trip is an occasion worth dressing up for, and if that trip includes a stop at the Grand Floridian Resort, you've got even more reason to add some style to your vacation wardrobe...

I've got a new WDW Outfit of the Day post, and it involves a lovely Lilly Pulitzer dress!
